trip

geez hotels are expensive in new york.  ah well, it will be nice.  So I managed to get a couple days out of work and will be going to NY on Wednesday and coming back on Monday.  I’ll catch a couple shows and make a goodbye art project out there.

I’m hoping to make a small something out in central park.  It will have to be small just because I don’t know the laws on sidewalk drawing.

changes, changes, I bought a new computer so now I can edit video easier.  I’m going to purchase a better program for editing as well.

Oh, this is cool, CBC radio in Canada is doing a segment this week about “why we need youtube” and they e-mailed me about joining the discusion.  Well I told them I would be gone most of the week and they said we could do the interview tomorrow.  I asked when they would call and the lady explained that telephone reception isn’t very good so I will have to go to Minnesota Public Radio station and set up in a booth and do the interview there.  Totally cool.  Something I have never experienced.  I will record the whole process and attempt to make some sort of video out of the process.  I may or may not post it depending if it is interesting.  It should be a fun experience though.

so someone recently asked me “do you plan your projects” and I must say I was a little surprised by the question.  I know people that read the blog know I plan my projects but I guess some people that only see the work on YouTube think I just create it out of thin air.  Which is amazing to me, especially A Moment.  It would be (in my mind) impossible to create that without planning unless someone is an idiot savant.  But then the person responded to this with dissapointment.  Quite frankly that irritated me, I’m doing this to expose people to art and get people interested in art not put a mystery into it.  gahhhhhhhhhhhh I’ve never been put in this spot.

anyway, I’ll be in NY for a bit, I’ll blog from there and post my project next week.

well I didn’t find a good replacement for regular chalk.  There was a form of soft pastel that I guess real serious sidewalk drawing people use, but it was a buck a stick.  not gonna happen.  Because I leave the house today with a paper bag from the grocery store full to the brim with chalk.

I did a little test line yesterday and checked early this morning and it survived the wind so I will give it a shot today.  The wind is kicking pretty good so it may still move my camera around enough that I cannot make the picture and will have to wait for the weekend.

Alright I’m outa here.

issues

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

I’ve been planning all week for my physically largest piece ever.  Not the largest in terms of idea or time, but actual square footage.  Aaaaaaand then I just checked the forecast for Friday and discovered it will be windy.  Wind is death to chalk.  So I may not be able to do that project and will either have to postpone it till another week or come up with something else on a whim but the wind is just a major issue regardless what I do.

I just realized that there may be an alternative to chalk that won’t be affected as easily by the wind.  I’ll have to go hunting tomorrow.  That may mean I can do the piece after all!  That would be fantastic, but tiring, but fantastic!  ah well.  goodnight.

finally a post!

Well hopefully the time factor won’t be such a pressing issue in the near future.  I asked at work to go part time and I am told it might happen in November.  So I have a couple more months being worn out and then life should get more comfortable.

I think that is the hardest part about trying to make a go of something is the inbetween stage.  I’m making a little bit of money from it but not enough to be full time but it’s overwhelming to do both.  Actually I guess it’s not overwhelming, just the rest of my life takes a back seat.  hm……

Well I finally got my webcam working again.  I just hope I can find the time to work on that picture some more.  (I’ll have to move the clock cause it is dead).  The idea for the webcam is not to see the details of what I am working on but just to know the amount of time that can go into a project.

I’m really looking forward to October Goodbye Art and you will soon see why.  It will spice things up and get other people thinking.  I hope it goes smooth and hope you all hang out and check out that process when it starts.

I’m going to make a quick vacation trip to New York in a couple weeks.  I hope to do a quick small piece there in the city.

Hope everyone is doing well.
