So I’m writing this a week later. Not because I’m getting behind, but because I’m soooo busy. It’s hard to balance all of this with the rest of my life. But I’m getting it done.
The picture made of leaves. I had this piece planned out and I knew it was going to look a little rough. But I was kind of rushed and I couldn’t put the time in that I needed. Part of me regrets this but at the same time, it’s about making a piece each week, not necessarily making a wonderful piece each week. I hope it turns into a wonderful piece but there will occasionally be flukes and I don’t aim to hide them.
The leaves used in this piece are bright red on one side and then the other side is that light reddish color. I used enough leaves to create a couple feet of the piece. Then I took the leaves from the top and placed them at the bottom and just ran through the whole picture. I took photos and placed them together to make the final piece. And yes I did keep the leaves. I liked the process of making the picture quite a bit and I may utilize the leaves in something in the future. So here is the piece.
The final picture I personally am not happy with at all. Is it horrible? no. but it is definitely the lowest quality piece I have ever posted on my site. But I won’t hide it. I want others to see that not everything turns out the intended way. Here is a close up.
I like this picture more than the final piece. I think the leaves have a great color against the grass. Again I may use them again some day. Oh I took a couple pictures of me working on it.

Anyway, I’m working on this weekends picture. I love the idea so much that I am putting extra time into it. I want it to be the extra leap beyond the others. I have started a new theme which I will tell you all about next time. It is going to be a fun month. This month it will be fun to watch the pieces to “goodbye”

You really have got to give yourself some credit. I thought the image was intriguing.
I think it’s a shame you’re displeased with your outcome, but I like that you showed it anyway, admitting you weren’t proud but nonetheless not being ashamed. you just accepted that’s the way things go sometime. that’s an important ability to have.
I won’t lie, I don’t think it’s your most inspired piece, but that’s okay. as much as I love your work, I also love little reminders that you’re human, and not a super-human art machine.

I just wanted to comment that I am amazed by your work and I wondered how you come up with the ideas for your projects? I am not an artist, in fact if there is an opposite of artist that is what I should be called. But, that does not stop me from being in awe of what you do. Looking at some of your work I am left speachless wondering how in the world you are able to create such…I can’t even come up with a word for it. Just really cool shit. Like I said…I’m not a really creative person even with words. I will try to remember to stop by later in the week to take a look at your next project. Thanks for sharing your art with the rest of us.

I understand as a fellow artist that you have good and bad days with different mediums. As I have never used leaves it was quite intersting to see your outtakes on a face with one type of leaf. Creative, but I do have to agree with you, only I would have brought the deeper red leaves in closer to each other to give more feature to the face. You spread them out quite wide. Interesting style’s of work that you do. I paint on tiles, flatboard canvas’s, even on the backs of cereal boxs when my canvas’s run out. You definatly are keeping art alive and different. Can’t wait to see your new works to come.

while is do agree that this piece is not one of your strongest… for me, the process that you undertake to create your art, is a performance piece in its self. your 8X12’s are on my wall, i wish that i had a monitor playing the video on a loop next to them! until that happens, you tube will be a frequent stop for me on the web. can’t wait for next weeks.

Looking at this as a photographer though, I was wondering why the whole camera set up moved with each shot? If the final product is going to be composed of pictures, it seems you would just build each frame in one spot and photograph.

Agreed, probably not your best work but its all part of the process. The process (creativity) its self is all the more reward in and of its own. Great idea though, and the leaves are beautiful. My only thought is that the canvas may have been a little small for the medium. Other than that kudos for the attempt.
As a side-bar, I really appreciate your sharing in the process of creativity. It’s really served as an catalyst in focusing on my own. I may never be as evangelical (ardent or zealous enthusiasm for a cause) as you, but inspired none-the-less. Thank you!
